2.5 Other Doctrines
[This page has yet to be completed. They are published here so that readers may have a general idea of our doctrinal stance.]
The Doctrine of Satan
The existence of Satan is taught in both Old and New Testaments. He is a real person who is a spirit. He is a created being who sinned against God and led a third of all angelic beings in rebellion against God. Satan is thoroughly evil and actively works to corrupt and thwart the purposes of God. He holds all men who are unsaved by Jesus Christ in bondage, he deceives the nations, he is a murderer, a liar, an accuser of the brethren, he is an adversary of all who belong to Jesus Christ. He will be judged by God and condemned to the Lake of Fire for eternity.
The Doctrine of Man
Man is a created being, created directly from God without any evolutionary intermediary stages. He is created in the image of God and is not an advanced animal. Man is created with a conscience that tells him that he is lost to God and is a sinner. Man consists of three parts: body, soul and spirit. The spiritual part of man is dead in its natural state because of sin, and is only made alive by salvation by Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit creating a new spirit in a person in the image of Christ. Without salvation every person is lost in sin and will be judged and condemned to the Lake of Fire because God is holy and, while patient with sinners, will not tolerate sin. The saved person is still in an unredeemable fleshly body, and the spirit wars with the flesh throughout this life against the desire to sin. A saved person who dies is received by God into everlasting blessedness in the presence of God, and will receive a new body, perfect and without corruption at the Resurrection.
The Doctrine of Sin
All men have sinned against the holiness and will of God. Sin is anything that is against the character of God. Sin has corrupted the nature of man from the original perfect creation of God, and now man is evil in all things. Individuals may not perform every form of evil expression that exists, yet all are in a state of rebellion against God and are therefore still sinners. Every person receives imputed sin from being the progeny of Adam, plus every person wilfully sins by their own choice. God is currently patient and merciful towards sinners because it is his nature to be so, but his holiness requires that he should judge sin. As such, all unsaved men are doomed to the Lake of Fire for eternity.
The Doctrine of Salvation
All men are sinners, and no man can save himself from sin. Sin is what we do, and sinners are what we are; this is our nature. No amount or quality of work can overcome sin in our nature, and our best efforts are worthless to the holy God. We are all lost in our sins for eternity, except for the provision of God through Jesus Christ. Christ, being God himself and totally holy and without sin, was born into this world as a fully human man and suffered the pain and difficulty of life, yet was without sin and was not capable of sinning because he is God. As a man he was qualified to represent men as the substitution for men; as the sinless God he was qualified to pay for all men’s sin. God counts Christ’s death entirely satisfactory to be substitutionary for the penalty of all sin, and any sinner can be saved by Christ. God calls all people to be saved; any who refuse, or follow another way other than trusting in Christ, are still condemned for their sins. God calls men to repentance of sin, trust in the atoning work of Christ, and submission to the lordship of Christ. The Holy Spirit works to convict men of their sin, but men must respond to God’s call to be saved.
The person who confesses of their sin, repents and trusts Christ and submits to him receives fully the Holy Spirit, who permanently indwells the believer, creates a new nature within the person, is the promise of the resurrection and glory to come, and fellowships with the believer.
The true believer is secure in his salvation and will never lose it or abandon it.
Believers are commanded by God to be immersed in water for baptism, not to be saved but as an obedience to the command of God and a witness of salvation in Christ, representing death, burial and resurrection. Believers are to take part in the remembrance of Christ through the bread and the wine of communion. The bread and wine remain as they are and are not altered in any way to become the flesh or blood of Christ. Believers are to grow in their new nature, emulating Christ, and exhibiting Christ-likeness in love, mercy, compassion, patience, prayer, witnessing and obedience to God.
The Doctrine of the Church
The Church is a special creation of the Holy Spirit and is distinct from other assemblies that exist in the world. The Church exists in the form of local churches which comprise groups of genuine believers in Jesus Christ. While there have been saints of God in the Old Testament, the Church came into being be the coming of the Holy Spirit upon 120 believers on the Day of Pentecost after Christ’s death and resurrection. The Church is a spiritual entity, being the Body of Christ, and is currently being perfected by the salvation of more people until it is complete and is received by Christ as his Bride. The true Church is not identical to the organized church, although an assembly of believers would require that some organization take place. There are many organized churches that are not a part of the true Church of God. God has ordained that churches should be shepherded by overseers, to whom the children of God are entrusted. Overseers are to teach the Bible, counsel, and care for the people in their church. The local church is not to be answerable to an outside authority, be it secular or religious. Every believer is a priest under the High Priest Jesus Christ and is accountable only to him. The overseer is to act as a shepherd but is not an authority beyond what the Bible has authorized.
The Doctrine of Future Things
Following the principle of a plain, straight forward interpretation of the Bible (according to the grammatical-historical-literal position), and the avoidance of allegorical interpretations which are entirely subjective, certain things can be concluded.
In the future there will be a time when the Church is complete and Christ shall come to receive his Bride into Heaven. All dead believers who are a part of the Bride shall be resurrected into new, glorified bodies and ascend into the air to Christ. The living believers shall also be physically transformed; the old sinful flesh destroyed, and shall be caught up with the resurrected believers. They shall be with Christ at the marriage supper of the Lamb.
After these events shall come a time great tribulation upon the Earth, in which God’s stored judgment against sinful men shall be poured out. This shall compass a period of seven years. During that time there shall also be a man who is described as antichrist, who shall lead all men against God. During the Tribulation God shall pour out his wrath against sinners on the Earth. Much of the Earth shall see disaster and many shall die. Some shall repent and believe in Jesus Christ, but many shall refuse and not be saved.
At the end of the seven years God’s wrath shall be complete. Jesus Christ shall return physically to the earth and begin a 1000 year personal reign over all the Earth. The man of sin and his false prophet shall be cast into the Lake of Fire. Satan shall be bound for 1000 years. At the end of those years he shall be released for a season, and he shall raise a rebellion against God. God shall destroy those who rebel against him. Christ shall sit in judgment, and all the dead who are not in Christ shall be raised from the dead and cast into the Lake of Fire. Those who have received the grace of God shall dwell in the presence of God and Jesus Christ in the New Jerusalem; the old heavens and earth shall pass away into non-existence.
This marks the end of biblical revelation of the times to come, and God shall be glorified, his holiness maintained, his mercy shown in grace towards sinners who seek him, and the time of everlasting blessedness shall be.
