2.2 God, The Father
God the Father is the God and Father of:
* God the Lord Jesus Christ
* Of Israel
* Of believers in Jesus Christ
The Father is the Creator and lord of all creation
The Father is the author of election
The Father is the sender of Jesus Christ
The Father is the discipliner of his children
God the Father is the only sovereign and all-powerful ruler of the whole of existence, and everything is subservient to him. Redemption is made possible by his authority. Fatherhood is his designated role within the Trinity and with mankind. He is father to humans in the sense that he is their creator, but the Father has a real, personal, spiritual relationship only with believers of Jesus Christ; the rest of humanity does not have God as their father; their father is the devil. The Father has decreed that all things that happen will ultimately be for his own glory. The Father is not the author of, nor does he approve of, sin. He doesn’t remove the accountability of creatures with morality. He exhibits love, patience and mercy by saving from sin all people who come to him through trusting in the atoning work of Jesus Christ alone, and he adopts them as his own.
