Is God Willing To Save Everyone From Hell?

The Book of Hebrews, chapter 7 verse 25, says, ‘[Jesus] is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.’ Some people may question this, wondering whether God is willing (as distinct from being able) to save; maybe God rejects some from the possibility of being saved? Why Did Jesus Weep?

“When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,  And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. Jesus wept. Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!” (John 11:33–36).

This was a scene of intense sorrow and pain. Not only was Mary weeping (a form of the verb klaio; “to wail,” or “to lament loudly”), but the Jews who came with her were also weeping and wailing loudly. According to Jewish custom, even the poorest family was expected to hire at least two flute players and a professional wailing woman. Since Mary, Martha, and Lazarus were a prominent family, they would likely have had even more professional mourners, in addition to the others who came to pay their respects (v. 19). What Does It Mean: ‘Let Not the Sun Go Down Upon Your Wrath’?

'Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: neither give place to the devil' (Ephesians 4:26–27). The word 'angry' (parorgismos) is not brief, external, boiling–over rage or an internal, seething resentment, but instead is a deep–down, determined and settled conviction. Its use can represent an emotion, both good or bad, depending on motive and purpose. Continue reading

Does the Bible Teach Us to Pester God with Prayer?

Prayer to God is supposed to, always, be meaningful. God has revealed that repetitious, meaningless, by-the-numbers prayer doesn't have favor from him. There is a difference between vain, empty prayer, and prayer that is often repeated: the first is worthless, while the second is encouraged by God. This can be seen in Luke 11:5-13, which says in part, 'If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?' - Luke 11:13. What is the Extent of the Authority of Church Leadership?

The Bible teaches that the only authority any pastor or elder has, as shepherds of the church, is the Word of God. A deacon has no authority at all, being not leaders but servants of the church. When one steps beyond the Word of God one steps beyond the bounds of biblical authority. An elder/pastor has no authority to say to a person in a church, "Go here, do this, don't do that," if it's contrary to the Bible. That is overstepping the bounds. An elder or pastor is an instrument by which God makes known His revelation, and no-one may introduce their own opinions, especially passing them off as being biblical. A pastor should teach, train, and care for those in his church; the word 'Pastor' means 'Shepherd', and Jesus the Caring Shepherd is to be every pastor's role model. Being a good administrator or preacher, while good, is not enough. Continue reading

Anne Askew

Anne Askew was a woman who died as a martyr during the reign of Henry VIII of England. She was one of many women who, like many men, “loved not their lives to the death”, and maintained their testimony of Jesus Christ to the end of their lives.

anne askew

Anne was born into the gentry as the daughter of a knight (Sir William Askew of Stallingborough, a wealthy landowner and part of the court of Henry VIII). She had a comfortable childhood and received a good education with her brothers at home. Hard working, clever and an avid reader, Anne showed a keen interest in Bible studies and memorized entire passages. After reading the Bible in English and much study, Anne’s life increasingly came to reflect the grace she had received through Jesus Christ.

In 1536 Anne was forced into a marriage by her father against her will, because her older sister, who had been betrothed to Thomas Kyme (a Catholic and wealthy landowner), died. Because her father didn’t want to lose a valuable connection, Sir William compelled Anne to marry Kyme.
